Developing Christ-Honoring Leadership & Excellence in Christian Schools

     January 2011                                                                               Volume 4 Issue 1

In Matthew 28, Jesus commands us with the imperative: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."  The Great Commission not only is a call to evangelize but charges us to also carry on the work of Christ with the teaching to obey everything that He has commanded.

As educators, we embrace the complete regeneration and transformation of both the soul and mind.  The Great Commission is not complete merely with salvation.  It is with the latter half of the Great Commission that we as Christian school leaders serve Christ and His Kingdom by teaching the revealed truths of Christ and His Creation that transform with true academic excellence.

The world offers numerous anti-thetical worldviews to a Biblical Worldview.  Government schools of today have an open hostility to Christianity with the fundamental doctrine of public schools being the irrelevancy of God.

Therefore, the imperative of the Great Commission in 2011 is for us as Christian school leaders to intensify and increase our reach.  By God's grace and provisions, we trust that you will find 2011 to be a year of cutting edge ministry and effectiveness.

(Read the sidebar for some foundational thoughts in leading and marketing your school to fully serve the Great Commission.)

May you and your school community experience God's  favor in 2011!

Defining Your School's Mission - How the Great Commission includes Evangelism and Discipleship

When schools leaders deeply contemplate their school's mission, serious questions often arise as to the nature and background of the prospective student and their family.  There are schools that serve very well through being an evangelistic ministry, whereas, other schools richly develop the Christian mind by being distinctly covenantal.

Yet, many covenantal schools struggle to clearly define just what is a covenant family.  Is it merely found with signing an agreement on the bottom of the application indicating token church attendance?  Or on the other hand, are covenantal families fully vetted to discern that they truly embrace the Lordship of Christ and the authority of God's revealed Word.

Then there are even those schools that would define themselves as modified covenantal.  In these schools, you may find that the school requires the family to be sincerely seeking after God and His truth claims.  Here a discipleship that serves as a hybrid of evangelism with growth in Christian thought and character would be evidenced.

As a final point, there are some schools that have a defined mission of being both evangelistic and covenantal where they by policy admit say 70% of their students from Christian or covenantal families.  The other 30% are admitted on an evangelistic basis.  These schools state that such an enrollment policy brings vibrant purpose to the campus community with the continual reminder to contend for the faith (truth) and to always be prepared to give the reason for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15).

In Christian schooling, there will always be the call for Great Commission growth that transforms and disciples both the soul and mind for the glory of God.

With 2011, we will very soon encounter re-enrollment and open enrollment.  You are encouraged to be aggressively seeking new ways to market your school to further reach and serve your community to God's glory.

This is the Great Commission imperative!
