Several years ago, I spoke with a board member at what seemed to be a very promising Christian school with so much potential.  He stated that the board's desire was to develop a "world class" school. 


However, several years later,  there is a new board and there have been 3 changes in the head administrator.  The enrollment remains the same if not lower from when the school was founded.

 

Fortunately, a recent review of this school's vision and mission statement reflects that they appear to now be seeking to be a school after the heart and mind of God. 

 

Yet, why do so many Christian schools not attain their potential that truly glorifies God and receives His favor?  Read the sidebar for some foundational thoughts in leading your school to fully reach its vision, mission and calling.

 Thriving Christian Schools are Growing Christian Schools
 
 
Christian schools seeking to experience real growth can only do so from the authority of God's revealed truths.  Such growth is therefore found by developing the Christian mind and soul for academic excellence and then in attaining enrollment and financial sustainability.   
 
In private academia, there will always be the seeking of academic excellence - but in the Christian academy, there is a need for Great Commission growth that disciples the mind in excellence for God - yet also receives His financial favor when we truly reach more students.  The need is great for Christian schools to move forward in such a mindset.     
 
While many young and smaller Christian schools may feel as though they are struggling, realize that they like any 5th grader at your school are growing towards becoming fully trained.  Therefore, do not be dismayed by many schools that appear elite and use such terms as "premiere" or "world class".  
 
By the grace of God, as your school is led by the will and mind of Christ, you too will experience His blessing in enrollment and revenue sources.  Furthermore, any real strategic growth is first preceded by a Board/Administration team that embraces unity and obedience to God.  Only then can the visionary leadership essential to Godly strategic planning take place.  Then you can truly recognize your vision and mission in long-term sustainability with Christ-honoring excellence.
